What to do when you have too much to do

What to do when you have too much to do!

A very common complaint I get from home based business owners is that they just feel completely overwhelmed and don’t know where to start when it comes to get everything they need done for their business.

I know I have been there, and for me its a time where EVERTHING seems to stop. Even through I’m “working” nothing seems to get done! And worse still, we let all the other things that need our attention become excuses and we try to use these as the reasons that nothing is getting done!

This especially happens when we work from home as we are nearly always there right, so we see everything else that can pull us away from work (hands up who is guilty of getting stuck into housework when you should be concentrating on your business!) AND other people ask little favors of us and we never say no,  right!!!

So lets look firstly at the reasons this can happen. In my opinion there are two reasons in particular that this can happen.

Firstly, it can be because we have no real clue what we are doing and we can’t bear the thought of sitting down to another frustrating day of no results.

Secondly, it can be because we have made a lot of changes in our business, started to streamline offerings, get organised and get some results, and suddenly we realise how much work its going to take to get this up to scratch! This is usually the point where we realise why we were not getting results before we started to make these changes!

It’s the second reason that I want to help you with here.

The reason that we need to put the work in at the start is so we can put the structures in place so we can have the balance we want at a future date. Business structure and systems don’t just magically appear overnight, but once they are there, they can make your life a whole lot easier!

With that said, I can totally understand how it can all become overwhelming while trying to set this up, so here are my top tips for what to do when you have too much to do.

Back Away From It All For A While

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you could start sinking back into old habits. Best thing to do here is get away from it for a bit, a few days if you can. You need some time to think and take a few breaths. Go get a massage or your nails done, but make sure you get out of the house for a bit. You need a break and some down time to re-group, forget about it for a little bit so you can start to re-focus.

Make A List

Its time to get real now. Even though you might be feeling a little bit overwhelmed, this work still has to get done. This is your business at the end of the day and it still has to be managed and you still need to work at bringing in clients. So start making a list of all the things you have to do. Write down each task you have to complete and then separate them into projects. Decide what project you are going to tackle first and start working on the tasks.

Start Saying No

You now have a group of projects that you need to complete. These projects will usually be something to do with gaining clients so they are important! Do not start any new projects or allow anything else to take your focus until you get this work complete. Its time to put you and this business first!

Consider Getting Some Help

If I had a pound for every time someone told me they could not afford a virtual assistant!! I’m going to let you in on a little secret – My first VA worked 3 hours a week for me. I handed over loads of fiddly tasks that were simply taking up my time and really didn’t need me to do it. There are VA’s out there that you can hire for 10 hours a month. Imagine how much quicker your work would get done! Re-visit that list you made and highlight all the things you would like to hand over to someone to complete for you, then go and find yourself a VA!

If you start putting these tips into action today, and even if they don’t give you results straight away, just the very fact that you will do something about it will set you ahead of all the others out there that are choosing to do nothing and continue on without making any changes to improve their chance of success.

My biggest wish for you is the best results you can get!
To your continued success,
Breda x

The one thing you must never do if you want to be financially free

financial freedomFor most people that own their own business, Financial Freedom seems to be a driving factor in getting started in the first place.

For a few, this comes about quickly, but for others, it becomes a distant dream after a few years of burning the midnight oil, putting everything into their business and not getting any closer to this goal!

So I bet if you are the person still chasing this dream, that right now you are wondering “What am I doing wrong?”

Well, I’m about to tell you.

You see if you are struggling financially at the moment then I want you to give an honest answer to the questions I am about to ask you. I am going to presume that the financial problems are coming from a lack of income which I am presuming equates to a little or no clients.

“What do you spend all your time doing?”

Be very honest with yourself here. If you currently have little or no clients, then what are you doing to get yourself those clients that you so desperately need?

  • What do you have to sell?
  • Are you confusing people by offering too much?
  • Are you undercharging for the amount of effort that goes into you making this solution available for your clients?
  • Are you constantly giving discounts or worse giving things and time away for free?
  • Are you focusing on business instead of being constantly available to help other people with their dilemmas?
  • Have you figured out what you actually need to sell in order to meet your monthly income goal?
  • Do you have a monthly income goal?

And most importantly.

When is the last time that you actually asked someone to be your client or to give you money in exchange for your offering?

You see, what I have observed in the work I do with my clients and from my own personal experience is that when we are in this position we end up doing so many things to try and solve this problem.

We start trying everything, grabbing at straws, believing that maybe it will just not happen for us but worst of all we end up doing the Number 1 thing that we must never do if we want to become financially free.

We start doing all the tasks in our business that will NOT make us money.

Think about the last 3,5, or even 10 things you did for your business, out of these how many of them have the possibility of making you money tomorrow.. not next month, not next year.. tomorrow!

If you can find one that can, then keep doing more of this. If none of them can, then why are you spending ALL your time on them? What can you start shifting your focus to in order to give yourself the possibility to get some money in the bank TOMORROW!

I call it focusing on money making activities.

I guarantee you that if you make this small shift in your focus that this will happen within the next month.

So what do you need to start adding to this list today in order to bring you closer to getting money in the bank? And before you start working on it, ask yourself the question “Does this have the ability to put money in the bank tomorrow?

To your continued success,
Breda x

What you MUST do before you book your next paying client

What you MUST do before you book your next paying Client

Clients, the thing we all need to keep our business afloat but unfortunately this can also be the thing that for some can be so hard to come by.

It is just not enough to do what you do and think this is going to build a business for you. If you have not done so already you have to think about what I like to call “Your Clients Journey Plan” . This is the plan that your clients need from you so they can know;

  • Why they are on the journey with you?
  • How they will get to where they are going?
  • What they can expect when they get there.

The way I look at it is, my clients are coming to me with a problem they want me to help them solve, so I do not want to add to their confusion. I want to make it an easy process for them so they can get the results they need.

Our clients rely on us to tell them the best way forward, so lets make sure that we have everything in place for them so they can get what they want quickly and easily.

If you have not already created this plan for your clients then I would recommend that you at least get these basic steps in line before you take on your next paying client.

1. Sell a solution to a problem.

I promise you when you switch from trying to tell people how you do what you do, to telling them the result they will get and what problem you will solve from them.. Everything becomes a whole lot easier for both you and your clients.

I have said this on more than one occasion.. but in order to become that person that has a fully booked diary, you have to stop being everything to everyone. You have a very specific skill set and you are the only person that can do what you do for your clients! But until you can grab their attention, they may simply pass you by. The easiest way to start narrowing your reach is to think about the problems you solve the most for people, or if you are just starting out – the one you feel most qualified to solve. Then the next step can be to change the name of your offerings, your title, or both.

Let’s say for example you are a hypnotherapist, and you put yourself out there as a therapist who can solve a whole range of problems for people. Now as true as that may be, it’s going to take up a lot of your energy and time trying to adapt your message to suit every person you meet. What if you decided for the next 3 months to focus your attention on getting clients who want to stop smoking? All of a sudden you are offering a very specific solution for a very specific problem. Your message and marketing becomes easier and if someone that wants to stop smoking comes across your “Stop Smoking Forever” offer.. well they will be compelled to stop and have a look wouldn’t they?

2. Offer your clients the chance to get some serious results.

In the majority of cases, if you have a client based time for money model type business, then usually the first meeting you have with your client is the one that simply lets you figure out where the problems are.
Most clients need a series of meetings to ensure they get the result they say they want and so you can support them in getting there.

If you are nodding yes to this, I want you to now look at your offerings and if there are once off 1:1’s as part of your service list, I need you to seriously consider Why are they there? If you know that your clients need to see you more than once, why do you give them the opportunity to work with you only once.

The best way around this is to develop a program or offering to ensure that your clients get the solution for the problem they are presenting to you. This does not have to be anything fancy or technical – It’s up to you as the expert to decide what your clients need. Then develop your offering around this. Let’s say you work with people suffering from stress, and you find that the best results your clients get are after 3 meetings with you over a period of 3 months. Then why not develop a program called “The Stress Eliminator” , and sell it as a package instead of a once off treatment?
This does 2 things

  1. Ensures that your client gets the maximum result for the problem they are presenting with.
  2. You have a client for the next 3 months

Win Win!

3. Have systems set up to support you and your clients.

This is something that can take some time to establish into the business, but I believe it should be implemented as soon as possible – especially if you are in the time for money model. That is you have to be the one that does the work in order to get paid.

There are 3 main areas to look at here.

Contact:
How do your clients contact you. It might be fine for people to contact you via mobile phone when you have a small client base, but you need to ensure this booking system also works when you have a fully booked diary. Make sure that the way you take bookings now will also work when you have a waiting list. Email with an auto-responder can work very well here, or something that I personally use is an online scheduler. My clients get access to a booking tool which links to my available times in my calendar and they can book it with out my input.

Delivering the service:
If you are offering a program, then you must figure out all the steps in advance. How will the get access to you for questions in between meetings if this is part of your offering? Do they need any other resources from you and how will you deliver this? You want to make this process as easy and uncomplicated as possible for both you and you client.

Boundaries:
There must be boundaries in place. You cannot be available 24/7 when you have this type of business you must have time to recover after your client meetings and also, how do you get the rest of your work done if your clients dictate when they see you, instead of you letting them know what hours you are available and finding a common match. The busier you get the more important this will become, so get your boundaries in place now. You’ll be glad you did when you are fully booked!

At the end of the day you need to put something in place that allows you to have a scale-able business! If you start putting these systems into place now, and even if you don’t see the results you want immediately, the very fact that you are putting some action behind this now will set you apart from everyone who is not thinking about where they could take their business and how they will be able to manage a fully booked diary.

I know you can do this, do you?

Why You Will Never Have A Successful Business

Why You Will Never Have A Successful Business

Be honest here..

How many times in the last few months have you thought about throwing in the towel and giving up on this little business of yours?

I know I have considered it many times over the last few years.

Why?
Very simply – this running your own business thing is bloody hard isn’t it.
It’s long hours, lots of work, rewards are few and far between and the money thing.. well we could talk about it if there was any flippin money.. right!

Until you hit a couple of the nails you need on the head and get into a stride with your business, so it can at least provide the financial support you require – business can be heart breaking!

In the work I do with my clients , and of course from my own experience these are the top reasons you can unknowingly set yourself up for business failure;

1.You don’t see yourself as a business owner.

I find this a lot especially with people who work from home. Sometimes its because a hobby has some-how turned itself into a business and sometimes its because, well, it just doesn’t feel like a buiness. Most of the time this is because financially it is not doing very well, and its hard to see it as a business when money is a problem. But also it can be because you are not acting like a business owner and you are not doing the things you should be doing to get this business of yours to a level you are proud of. Do you have systems and structures in place to support you and your business? What do you have to sell? How do you sell it? When is the last time you asked someone to give you money in exchange for what you have to offer? .. Some food for thought!

2.You are trying to sell too much.

This can be interpreted in two ways;

Firstly, You are trying to sell too much in relation to a “buy from me” attitude. Often when a business is struggling financially, the owner will use social media as a way of gaining clients. BUT when every single one of your posts asks the reader to buy from you, it can be hard to gain clients from this because you have not taken the time to create the know, like and trust factor that is essential on social media so you can form a relationship first. Try moving from helping to selling and you should see and improvement.

Secondly, Being everyone to everybody just does not work. Stop bending over backwards for people offering them the sun, moon and stars in an attempt to secure them as a client. Figure out what you are really good at and what people really seem to want from you. Let your current enquires, clients and past clients guide this for you. There is something that sells better than everything else. Put your focus here. Become known for this. Become the go-to person for this and you will notice that your offerings around this area become more focused, professional and desirable to your audience.

3.You don’t trust yourself to do the things you need to do.

If you take a minute to think about it you know where the problems are in your business, and I’m sure you already know where you are going wrong. So the big question is, Why don’t you trust yourself to do the things you need to do in your business to get it to where it need to go?
You already know where you are holding yourself back, the decisions you have been putting off making.
How much time have you already wasted looking for the answers when they are already inside you?

4.You worry about what other people will say.

This one I can completely relate to! I used to agonise over this one and worry about what people would think of me, about what I was saying and what I was doing. And then one day I thought about the people I was worrying about and I realised that not one of them would be my ideal clients. And there is one important thing to note about that, If they are not my ideal clients, then they are probably not looking for the service I offer or the information I provide, so actually they will probably never see it. So what am I worrying about? The only thing I was doing was stopping my ideal clients from finding me…. now that is something to worry about!

5.You are not clear on what success means to you.

If you have not already done this, take out a blank piece of paper and a pen and write down what success means to you. In other words, “Define Success in Relation to you and Your Business”
Often the word success for you is not attached to money and its not the thing that drives you. Its important to know what success means for you so you will know when you have achieved it. It also gives you a bigger goal to reach for!

5.You let things get to you instead of pushing through.

Unfortunately I need to give you a little bit of bad news here .. This running your own business thing does not get any easier just because the money starts to roll in. There will always be bad days. There will always be things that pop up and knock you off track. There will always be someone waiting to knock you down. But it’s important that you find the strength to push through, face those fears, face those challenges head on and push through. I guarantee it won’t kill you and you will emerge a stronger person and a better business owner.

6.You are spending too much time on the things that will not get you results.

Now it’s time to take a reality check and be really honest with yourself here. What are you actually doing in your business every day? Start tracking the tasks you are completing on a daily basis and notice what you are actually spending your time on. If you are not seeing results in your business then you need to change the way your are spending your time. If you have been spending a lot of time on one thing and you are still not seeing results, maybe you need to re-evaluate and switch direction. How many tasks are you working on that are actual “money making” activities? What needs to change here?

I want you to know that I understand that it can be frustrating to put all the work you are putting in and not get results.

But, don’t worry its not all doom and gloom. There is a very easy way to turn all of this around.

It you can relate to some of the issues highlighted above, all you have to do is change the way you are currently doing things. Push through the challenges, streamline your offerings, get clear on your goals and what success means to you. It all starts with you making a decision right here and now.

Decide that you are going to be a better version of yourself from this moment on. Decide that you can have the business you have always dreamed of. Decide that you are worth it.

I know you can do it, do you?

How to ensure you have a fully booked diary

How to ensure you have a fully booked diary.

By far the most common result my clients present to me as the thing they want to achieve most is a “Fully Booked Diary”.

Most people who are looking for this result think it will be the solution of the biggest problem at all => not enough money coming in for the work they are putting in.
And yes when we think about it in financial terms only, it will create this solution for you.

It really is the dream isn’t it..
– Money flowing in.
– A waiting list when someone wants to book you.
– Opening your diary and knowing that it is planned months in advance.
– You being able to tell your clients when you are available rather than fitting them in when it suits them, and not necessarily you!

So lets look at why you might not have a fully booked diary right now.

Do you know who you work with?

So you know what you do, you know what you can help people with, but do you know who you are best suited to work with? If I asked you to pick one person and this person would be your perfect client, who would that person be? Then dive into that a little further. What is it about this person that you feel would make them your perfect client and you know working with them would get them the best possible results for them. What is it about you that qualifies you to work specifically with them? I’m not asking for your qualifications here, its more to do with experience or understanding their fears, wants and needs. Once you get very clear on this person – you can talk to them through your marketing and your service offerings. They will hear you because you will begin to speak their language!

Do they know what you do?

This is something that a lot of business owners take for granted. They assume that everyone knows what they do, but people knowing what you do and them “knowing what you can do for them” are completely different things. You see, No one really cares about you, they only care about what you can do for them. Lets say for example you offer holistic treatments and you tell people you are a holistic practitioner in the area of “X” . The problem is that if you stop there, the person speaking to you probably has some pre-conceived notion as to what that is and if that does not match with the solutions they are looking for, they will dismiss it as something that might be able to help them.
So how do you make sure people know what you do?
Well you tell them through free resources like public speaking, blogging, videos, twitter, facebook posts, instagram, articles .. take your pick! There are so many different ways to ensure people know what you can do for them. Even changing the names of your service offerings can make the result you offer very clear. The key here is to be “Consistent and Persistent”. You must stick to a schedule and even when you do create that fully booked diary for yourself – you must continue to do this for the next round of clients coming your way.

Do you sell a solution to your clients problems?

This is very important. If you are selling a service instead of a solution, you’ll have a mountain to climb every single time you need to convince someone that you are the right person to help them. This by far is the easiest way to ensure you get noticed by the people who need your help the most. Start thinking of the problems your clients present to you, or the problems you believe you can help people solve. Now compare this to your current service offerings. Is what you currently offer going to create these results for your clients. How will they know that this is the solution available by just looking at your service list? What will entice them in to want to get to know you further? And most importantly.. what can you remove from your list? Most service list offerings are too long and overwhelm and confuse your clients. Pick maximum 3 and figure out a plan to fill your diary using only these. This will help you stay on message and use the language your ideal clients will hear!

All I ask of you at this point is please do not just read this and do nothing with the information here. I have helped my clients transform their businesses by focusing on these areas and getting them noticed by the people they are meant to work with. At the end of the day you are the only person who can do what you do for your clients. They are out there waiting for you to help them with their problems so please make sure that you do everything possible to get to them and help them. And its your job to make sure they find YOU!

To your continued success,
Breda

How to make your clients LOVE you

How to make your clients LOVE you

Let’s face it.
You would not have a business without your clients OR if you don’t currently have clients without the ability to take on clients.

Everyday I am grateful for the clients who choose to work with me. There are lots of other coaches out there and I never take for granted the fact that they chose me, and trusted me with their hard earned cash to help them get the results they tell me they want.

A lot of my clients work with me because they want to increase their income or create a “fully booked diary” as they say. They are also usually at the point in their business where “If this doesn’t work, then I have to seriously think about getting a J.O.B”.

I know how that feels as I went through this myself a few years ago. Definitely the key to having a successful business is having clients, but you must also have the ability to take on clients and look after them while they are in your care.

I have found that with the following structures in place, it’s
1. Easier to take on clients
2. More likely that your clients will LOVE working with you.

Clear Communication

In order to gain clients they must know exactly why they would hire you in the first place. Don’t take it for granted that people know what you do. In the majority of cases they don’t. Lets take for example your service list on your webpage. Clients often come to me and tell me no-one ever buys from their webpage and when I look at it, it is usually the title of the service they provide with a buy now button beside it. Be honest here, Is this enough information for some-one to pull out their payment card and book you if they had never met you? The other problem here is that the service list is usually long and really confuses the buyer as to what you do. It does not matter if your service is €50 or €5,000, it is your job to ensure that your potential client has all the information they need to make an informed decision on whether they want to work with you or not.

A Desired Result made Available

This is important.. in order for someone to be able to hire you they must know that you have the answer to the problem they are presenting to you for help with. This could be as easy as changing your title. I will use myself as an example here. I used to call myself a “Business Coach” , but every-time I said it, I found that people were making up their mind about what I did based on their thoughts of what a Business Coach did. So I thought about what I really do for my clients and my new title “The 90 day Coach” was born. This intrigues people as there is a result there, one they might be interested in and now people ask me how do I do that, instead of making up their own minds about what I do.

An Easy path to follow

If you want clients, then you must have somewhere to put them. e.g. if you have a car.. there must be a parking space available to you to place it in if you want to get out. So if you think of it this way – your clients are in the car, and they want to work with you, but in order to do so they must first park the car and get out. So in which service offering do they park in? And when they get there, is there a clear set of guidelines to get them to then next step, or are they left out there wondering what to do next, feeling a little lost and confused? A clear step by step instruction as to how this service will be delivered helps your clients to feel supported and trust you. It also tells them what they can expect to happen as a result of working with you.

Boundaries in place

Have you ever had a client that contacted you at all hours of the day and night? I know this only had to happen once for me to put some clear boundaries in place between me and my clients. It’s not because I don’t want to make myself available to help them, its because I know that if I do not look after my own energy levels that I will not be able to help them as much as I do. The other benefit of this is that you don’t end up resenting you clients because you are able to schedule some down time and have your own life safe in the knowledge that the needs of your clients have been taken care of.

The next step made available if they want to work with you further.

When your clients have worked with you and have loved the results produced, they often want to continue to work with you. So what do you have in place to allow this to happen? If you can help them reach the next desired result, then have you a service to offer to help make this available to them?

So do you need to make some changes to your business to allow your clients to love you?

To your continued success,
Breda

Have you fallen out of love with your business?

Have you fallen

Do you remember how you felt when you first opened your business?

Excited, proud, full of energy, ready to take on the world, make loads of money and go on great holidays?
You couldn’t wait to show off your new business cards, your new website, tell everyone about what you were doing.

And then.

Reality hit, right?

You were ready to go, ready to deliver this amazing service you had to offer, ready to work with any single client that came your way, ready to accept all the riches and rewards coming your way.

And what happened?

Nothing!

There were either too few clients or no clients at all, no-one seemed to understand or want to know what you were doing, no likes or comments on your Facebook page, no emails flowing into your inbox (well unless they were newsletters you had signed up to, the advertising you were doing wasn’t working, and the worst thing of all.. the bank account now looked worse not better so that holiday you expected to take, well maybe next year eh?

So what on earth happened?

Why did this business born out of passion tun into something that now causes you stress, leave you feeling overworked and underpaid, that makes you wonder where the hell you went wrong and constantly looking for answers to the question “How do I make this work?”.

In the work I do with my clients I find that there are 4 main areas that will cause you to fall out of love with your business if you do not pay attention to them.

Your Market

If you are thinking right now that what you have is for anyone and everyone out there in the big bad world, well I have to tell you that you are wrong! I’m sorry to be the one to have to break it to you, but not everyone is interested in what you have to offer, neither do they want you to convince them on how it can help them or why they should come to you. This is usually because they are not looking for the answer to the problem you solve. You are brilliant at what you do and only you can do it the way you do it, but this also shows me that there are a certain group of people out there that will benefit what you have to offer the most. Think about the problems you solve for your clients, and also figure out what qualifies YOU to be able to help them solve this problem. This is not where I want you to recite all your qualifications, this is where I want you to tell me Why the people who you can help the most should trust and hire YOU!

Your Time

Working all the hours you can without a specific goal, target or agenda in mind will leave you overworked, frustrated and with nothing to show for your effort! I want you to start thinking about how you spend your time. Be really honest with yourself here. What are you actually doing? Lets take for example the scenario that you currently have no clients. Well then everything you are currently doing should be aimed at getting and working with clients. How many times in the past few weeks have you actually asked someone to work with you or to hire you? If the answer is none, then you need to figure out how to get yourself in front of people so they notice you and give you the opportunity to ask them to be your client.

Your Money

So you know that there is not a lot of money coming in right now, but do you know where it is coming from and where it is going to? If you don’t know the exact answers to your questions then you have given away your power when it comes to money. You have to be in control here. At the very least you need to know how much you need to generate each month just to cover your expenses, both business and personal. This then becomes your break even point and you at least have a target. Now look at what you have to offer. How much income does it generate? How many of each service do you need to sell every month to reach break even point?

Your Plan

So what is the plan? Do you know how much income you want to achieve this year, how many clients you want to work with this rear, how many you need to work with, what your offerings are. what new offerings will you make this year, what your clients want from you, when you will work, when you won’t work, how will you deliver the service, what changes need to occur in your business to support you as your client list grows?

It can be a lot to consider, but these points and more do need your consideration – You need a plan that answers 3 questions
– What do you sell?
– Who do you sell it to?
– Where do you sell it?

I find its easier to plan 3 months in advance rather than 12 months, it makes it feel more achievable and you can make the updates and changes you need to make in the next 3 month plan rather than trying to figure it all out now!

I know that when I turned my attention to these parts of my business and when I got it under control, then love started to blossom again and we now have a healthy, happy relationship!

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

To your continued success,
Breda

So you don’t like selling? Try this!

selling blog

I gave a talk last week to a group of about 65 female Entrepreneurs and during my time with them I asked the question “Who here likes sales?” About 10-12 people in the room put their hands up, but every single person in the room was a business owner.

I was not surprised as I come across a lot of people who are in business and tell me they don’t like sales. They tell me

  • they don’t want to appear pushy
  • they are afraid of being rejected
  • people won’t be interested in what they have to offer
  • they don’t know what to say
  • don’t have the courage to get out there and do it
  • don’t want to bug people
  • they find it really difficult to promote their own stuff

I could go on and on here, and there are a thousand other excuses I could add to this list.

But.

If you are agreeing with these, or you can add your own reasons to the end of this list And you are a business owner then I have a very important question for you.

When you decided to open your own business, what made you think you would make money from it and create the life and living you wanted for yourself without selling what you have to offer?

I want you to really think about that for a minute.

Is it that you always hated selling or is it that you have had a couple of rejections along your entrepreneurial journey and you have learned to hate it?

Whatever the reason, if you hate sales or have a fear of selling, it is something you have to tackle and conquer because at the end of the day – You own a business and you have to sell what you offer in order to make a living from it!

So lets see if we can make this a little easier for you and think about selling in a different way.

Here are my top tips…

Selling is not something you do TO someone, its something you do FOR someone.

This is something my coach told me and I thought it was very profound.
The first time I realised that some people have a problem with selling was when I attended a training and we were asked to define sales. I remember thinking “Someone has what I want and I give them money to get it from them”, but was then astonished when I heard other people definitions such as “dirty”, “pushy” etc. We all have a different definition of what sales means to us, but really this statement should pull it back into perspective. No matter what you offer – it is a solution to someones problem. If you can solve that problem for them then why are you stopping yourself?

You didn’t start this Business to provide a dis-service did you?

Think of what you do. You provide a service of some description. Think of the problems you solve and why you do what you do. Think of the people who are out there waiting for you to solve the problem that they have. Think of the consequences and the fall out they may suffer if they don’t get the solution that you have to offer. You are here ready and able to provide that service to those people. If you don’t figure out how to reach them, you don’t provide them with a service, you provide them with a dis-service and I believe that is not why you started your business.

Remember WHY you started this business.

Was it to have more time, more money, freedom to work your own hours. What was it that prompted you to do this? In the majority of cases the answer I get is around money and financial freedom. So what stopped you going after this dream? To make more money, yes you have to sell what you have to offer – but you are in luck because the online world of social media has dramatically changed the way we sell these days. It allows us to show case what we do, how we do it, help people with their questions and determine if there is a market for what we have to offer. Helping is the new selling!

So next time you feel that little twinge of fear rise inside you when you think about sales.. Ask yourself this question.

“What would happen if I switched my thinking from, I want to sell to this person TO I want to help this person”tweet this

What would happen then?

To your continued success,
Breda

Don’t set Goals, Until you Do This!

Don't Set Goals... Do thisJanuary, the time of the year when nearly every conversation you have has the words “New Years Resolution”, “Goals” or “Vision Boards”.

And rightly so. It is great to sit down and plan, set goals and decide what your year ahead is going to look like. If you have been following me for a while you will know that I’m all about planning and these are essential parts of business and strategy!

But in my experience doing this is not enough.. there is a step before this that a lot of people skip and because of this they end up forgetting, or giving up on their goals.

From my own personal observations the reason I think this happens is because we can get carried away setting our goals. We make them so big that we can’t achieve them because we have not set any kind of track record in order to do so.

Lets take making money as an example. (as this is on nearly everyone’s list!)

Small Business Owners can get crazy around this time of the year setting huge financial targets for themselves.

Now I believe anyone can achieve anything they set their minds to, but if someone tells me they want to generate and income of 100K this year, and when I dive a little further and find out that in the previous year they made 12k and they don’t plan on changing any of the offerings or the way they do business; that’s when the alarm bells start to go off for me!

The goal becomes so big that it ends up consuming them and that’s when the fear can start to set in. Also when the goal is stated and I ask the question “How are you going to achieve this?” , I am often met with a blank stare and silence.

So here is the secret.

Before you set your goals, state your “intention”

Intention comes from a place of belief and desire so once you know the intention, its easier to create the goals around this.

So lets look at the income goal from a place of intention.

Instead of thinking about how much you can make, first think about what you can do based on your offerings.

“My intention is to work with [insert the amount of people you ant to work with over the year] of people to help them [insert the result you offer] ”

From here start thinking about your offerings and the way you conduct your business. If this is your intention, then does your business structure support this?

If your goal is to make X amount fulfilling this intention, do your offerings and pricing structure support this?

How much of your time would you need to allocate to fulfill this intention based on your current offerings.

So now you have a basis to start setting some goals that will help you reach that intention. Goals are action orientated so allow you to create specific actions that you will execute until you reach your target.

But your intention will guide you towards that every day. The intention you set helps you to decide how you want to show up in every single moment,  whether you are winning or losing.  They allow you to live your life based on what matters most to you.

But let me be very clear here

Focusing on your intentions does not mean you don’t set goals

By setting your intention before stating your goals you will allow yourself to enjoy the journey just as much as reaching the destination.

So there is only one question that remains.

What are your intentions for the year ahead?

To your continued success,
Breda
